Sponsored by the Foundation Osmane Mounif AIDI for Culture, Communication and Development, the book of the Spanish photographer Miquel Arnal was published on the occasion of the selection of Aleppo as capital of Islamic culture for the year 2006.
This ancient city which embraced all pages of human history remained a land of eternal youth where neither old age nor bereavement find their way through its walls.

The city presents its beautiful image with ten thousand years of history over its shoulders; it is indeed the most aged and the youngest amongst all cities and the ideal cradle of civilization in its demographic, religious, enlightened frame, a frame so inclusive and tolerant. The selection of Aleppo as capital of Islamic Culture has provided a wide space for dialogue and introduction of self, stances, past, present and future.
The first fruit of the celebration was the inauguration of the restoration works that were carried out in the Great Umayyad Mosque, this unique architectural edifice which sums up the history of Islamic presence in the city.
