The Osmane Mounif AIDI Foundation for Culture, Communication and Development has authorized the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) to institute an honorary prize in the name of Osmane Mounif AIDI. The said Federation had been established on the 4th of March 1968, when the representatives of 50 scientific and technical organizations from all over the world have met in Paris under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in order to create the World Federation of Engineering Organizations WFEO as an international non-governmental organization. |

In Novermber 2006, Dr. Osmane AIDI, founder and president of the Osmane Mounif AIDI Foundation for Culture,
Communication and Development, together with the president of WFEO, has instituted this award aiming
at encouraging engineering and technology applications to improve the living conditions of the poor and the protection of natural resources.
The WFEO Executive Council which met in Chicago in October 2006, approved the principle of establishing this award and authorized its President to sign a contract with Dr. Osmane AIDI according to which the award would be officially established.
The award will be presented biennially at the General Assembly of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations, and will be given for the first time in November 2007, on the occasion of the WFEO General Assembly due to convene in Delhi. It consists of a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of 10,000 USD.
The Osmane AIDI Award is given to an engineer, team of engineers or a technical institution, regardless of WFEO membership, who have participated in a study, work or project recognized as having
contributed to the improvement of the living conditions of the poor or the preservation and development of natural resources.
The award will be given on the basis of a successfully completed project in the two to five years prior to March 31, 2007 in one of the following fields : protection and development of hydraulic resources and drinking water resources, development of alternative hydraulic resources such as the reuse of desalinated water in agriculture, the desalination of brackish or sea water, the development of reliable waste water evacuation systems and the decontamination of polluted water .etc.
